Pet Books!

Review of My Dog Book, My Cat Book, Superstar Dogs, and Superstar Cats from Running Press Publishers (RP Kids)

This was a four-for-one deal and as cute as it gets. I have a lot I want to talk about so I’m going to break this up.

First, My Dog Book and My Cat Book. These are interactive scrapbooks for kids to record memories, photos, and drawings of their pet. And they charmed the heck out of me. The layout is crisp and simple, yet so adorable. I would have been all over these when I was 8. Or 12. Or now. I love the clever writing prompts and bullet-journal style. The little doodles inside are so cute. If a child filled out the prompts in this book, it would make such a great keepsake for their life later on.

Next, Superstar Dogs and Superstar Cats. I would have been all over these books, too, full of motivation to have the *coolest* dog ever. These are advanced tricks. I’m not sure I could pull half of them off even today because I’ve never been good at that kind of stuff, but it was fun to read about them and I can totally see kids pulling it off. I love dogs so I thoroughly enjoyed imagining them performing all these tricks. However, my absolute favorite was the jump-through-the-hoop trick in the cat book. It literally tempted me to try it out with my neighbor’s cat. A cat jumping through a hoop?! That would be the cutest thing ever.

These books are available for purchase now through Amazon and other book retailers.

Thanks to @kidlitexchange for providing me with review copies of these books--all opinions are my own.

Author Interview: Kelsey Bryant

Having enjoyed the Six Cousins series over the holidays, I asked author Kelsey Bryant to join me on the blog for an interview. She kindly said yes! Below, she answers all my questions regarding the series, and also gave me some new books for my TBR list.  Author Interview: Kelsey Bryant Can you tell us what books you’ve written? Any that you’re working on? I’ve written … Family Reunion and England Adventure , books one and two in my Six Cousins series; Suit and Suitability , a 1930s retelling of Sense and Sensibility (one of my favorite books ever!) and part of the Vintage Jane Austen series; The Road to Bremen , a children’s chapter book that is an expanded retelling of the fairy tale “The Bremen Town Musicians”; and The Promise of Acorns , a contemporary story inspired by Jane Eyre that was published in A Very Bookish Thanksgiving novella collection and will soon be published as a standalone.   I’m currently working on a novella for another holiday n...

Rednecks Saying "Ma'am": A conversation with Keturah

Rednecks Saying "Ma'am": A Conversation with Keturah   I became aware of Keturah Lamb's existence, ironically, through her blog The Girl Who Doesn't Exist , a headline weird enough to get my attention. That sent me down the rabbit hole of her regular blog , where I have proudly read every single post. Her life was so different from mine it fascinated me. We became Facebook friends and Keturah graciously answered every single thing I ever wanted to know, until I got an idea...why not interview each other at the same time? And focus on the different ways we were raised and how that affected our lives?   Keturah kicked off our conversation with her question, “What is your first childhood memory THAT has impacted your life to this very day?” What followed was one of the most enjoyable 90-minute conversations I ever took part in. M: So sorry about the wait. I thought I could feasibly walk a dog and do an interview but no. K: I'm not surprised. M: Let me...

My favorite medias (the word is medias)

In this post, I won't linger over my obvious favorite forms of media, such as the Hunger Games, Harry Potter, Hamilton, the MCU, Stranger Things, the latest in my Youtube recommended feed, and so on and so forth. That's because I talk about these a lot and everyone knows I like them. Instead, I want to focus on the quieter movies, shows, music, and books that linger in my heart.  Please note that this list won't include many books, because I read many dozens a year, and overall enjoy most of them and have way too many favorites to even begin listing books.  So now, onto my favorite medias... Doctor Who  (specifically, NuWhu)  You're going to look at all these pictures here and you're going to ENJOY THEM and BE GRATEFUL. I know all but one are Eleven's run and that's because I love all the Doctors and companions but it's Eleven, Amy, and Rory who are the show to me; when I think about the show, there they are.  Also, Doctor Who is an obvious one really, ...
